PURPOSE : Provided is a method for preparing gamma-butyrolactone, thereby inhibiting formation of by-products to improve yield and selectivity, and prolonging half life of catalyst. Therefore the gamma-butyrolactone is mass-produced inexpensively.
CONSTITUTION : The method for preparing gamma-butyrolactone comprises dehydrogenating butandiol at 150 to 300 deg. C and reaction pressure of 0-9 kg/cm2 G in the gas phase in the presence of 4-membered or 5-membered enzyme system consisting of copper(Cu), zinc(Zn), aluminum(Al) and alkali metal and/or alkali rare earth metal in which Cu/Zn ratio is 0.3-2.0, the amount of aluminum used is 5 to 30 wt.%, and sum of the alkali metal and/or alkali rare earth metal is 0.1-10 wt.%, wherein the alkali metal and/or alkali rare earth metal is sodium, potassium, calcium or magnesium.
