PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide an optical amplifier which uses an amplification medium to which a widely general rare earth ion is added, in which a gain profile can be held constant.
SOLUTION : In this optical amplifier using the amplification medium to which a rare earth is doped, so that the gain profile is held constant. The optical amplifier comprises a rare-earth-doped optical fiber or a rare-earth-doped optical waveguide acting as the amplification medium in which the rare earth ions are doped to the core and/or the clad, an excitation means for exciting the amplification medium, an optical resonator which makes laser excitation in a specified wavelength of an amplified spontaneous emission light generated in the amplification medium, and a control part for controlling the excitation means, by monitoring the optical signal in the optical amplifier. Further, the method for controlling the gain profile of the optical amplifier at constant is provided. |
