PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide an optical amplifier of which the excitation light sources are constituted as a redundant construction by the light amplifier using EDF, which makes the excessive loss in beams of excitation light minimum even when an optical coupler is used, and which can efficiently introduce the beams of excitation light into the EDF side.
SOLUTION : This amplifier comprises such an rare earth doped optical fiber 22 that introduces beams of excitation light, and light signals entered from an incidence edge are amplified and emitted from an outgoing edge, first and second excitation light sources 11, 12 which emit the beams of excitation light, and the optical coupler 25 which is constituted so as to multiplex the beams of excitation light emitted from the respective excitation light source, and outputs at least two beams of excitation light. Further, the amplifier comprises a first excitation light introduction means which makes either of the beams of excitation light introduce from the incidence edge of the rare earth doped optical fiber, and a second excitation light introduction means which makes the other of the beams of excitation light introduce from the outgoing edge of the rare earth doped optical fiber. |
