PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a manufacturing method of a fluorescent substance for vacuum ultraviolet light whose glass base material has high ultraviolet transmittance and is excellent in chemical and mechanical properties and which, among other things, emits intense fluorescence when it is irradiated by ultraviolet rays in the vacuum ultraviolet region, and to provide the fluorescent substance for vacuum ultraviolet light.
SOLUTION : The manufacturing method of the fluorescent substance for vacuum ultraviolet light according to this invention comprises a step for phase-splitting alkali borosilicate glass containing heavy metals or rare earth elements by performing heat treatment on the glass, a step for acid-treating the split alkali borosilicate glass to obtain porous glass by eluting the metals, alkali and boric acid, a step for adsorbing at least one kind of metal atoms to the porous glass obtained by the above acid-treating step, and a step for firing the metal atom-adsorbed porous glass obtained by the above adsorbing step in air or in a reducing atmosphere. |
